High Performance Team
High Performance Teams play an integral role in the identification, recruitment, development, and age-appropriate competitive preparation of emerging Youth Elite, Junior Elite, and U23 athletes for USA Triathlon with the goal of developing well-rounded athletes capable of success at the highest levels of competition and progression within the USAT High Performance Program. AERO is one of only 40 such teams in the entire country and the only High Performance Team in the state of Tennessee. The AERO High Performance Team competes in highly competitive, draft-legal races across the country. Team selections are completed in the fall for the upcoming season beginning in January.
High Performance Team Training
Daily Performance Environment
We believe that the best way for athletes to achieve their highest performance is to train primarily in a group environment where the guidance of coaches can assess progress and instruct in areas of form, skills and technique and support of teammates can help motivate athletes to push beyond their previous limits. Athletes in the Daily Performance Environment train together under the supervision of USA Triathlon certified coaches and receive a customized training plans monitored by coaches through Training Peaks. Coaches will work with athletes who are unable to attend all practices to ensure that they have the tools they need to do some workouts on their own. Training progress will be monitored by athlete communication (in person and through Training Peaks, as well as data from training equipment.
Other Training Options
For athletes living too far to participate in the Daily Performance Environment, AERO offers distance training options with customized training plans monitored by coaches through Training Peaks. This allows athletes to train on their own with occasional access to High Performance Team practices as well as weekly feedback and event coaching from High Performance Team coaches. Distance program option is available for athletes on the High Performance Team, as well as athletes participating as part of the Teen or Emerging Elite Programs.
Athletes working towards being a part of the High Performance Team the following season may be selected to participate in a limited numbers of High Performance Team practices as an Emerging Elite athlete. If you have an athlete interested please contact the High Performance Team head coach for more information.
Teen Training Program
The AERO Teen Program is a great option for athletes 13 and up that want to build fitness and compete in triathlons, but prefer a more limited commitment of time. Teen training officially begins mid-March, but opportunities for teens to participate with HP team in some early season training will be offered in January and February as well. Teens can choose from 2 days/week or 3 days/week of training and have the option to work toward future participation with the HP Team in the future through the Emerging Elite Program.
